Structured Pathways for Sanskrit Revival: Programs of Jayatu Sanskritam

Long-Term Programs

Jayatu Sanskritam envisions a strong and sustained revival of Sanskrit scholarship in Nepal through long-term strategic initiatives. Recognizing Nepal as one of the original homes of Sanskrit civilization, the organisation plans to establish a Nepal Sanskrit Academy to unite Sanskrit scholars and institutions under one umbrella. This academy would serve as a central hub for research, training, and cultural promotion. Long-term goals also include initiating the Jayatu Sanskritam Award, to be presented annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to Sanskrit literature, education, or cultural preservation. The organisation aims to publish Sanskrit books and magazines regularly, promote Sanskrit drama through writing and enactment, and produce educational audio-visual content in Sanskrit. Collaborating with like-minded national and international organisations will be an integral part of the strategy to expand influence. These long-term plans are designed to embed Sanskrit deeply in Nepal’s academic, cultural, and public life.

Short-Term Programs

Jayatu Sanskritam also focuses on immediate-impact activities that can be carried out efficiently within short timeframes. These short-term programs include regular Sanskrit language training camps, aimed at both students and interested adults. These trainings focus on basic conversational Sanskrit, script reading, grammar, and usage in daily communication. Alongside language classes, the organisation offers short courses and workshops on Hindu philosophy, religious practices, rituals, and Vedic culture, aiming to spread awareness about Nepal’s spiritual heritage. These short-term programs are particularly effective for reaching younger audiences and rekindling interest in ancient wisdom. Workshops may be held in schools, temples, community halls, or online. The goal is to quickly mobilise communities, create interest, and equip people with the foundational knowledge of Sanskrit traditions. These programs serve as entry points for deeper engagement and help generate grassroots support for the broader mission of Sanskrit revival.

Contextual Programs

Contextual programs of Jayatu Sanskritam are designed to respond dynamically to relevant festivals, events, or current social concerns. These are flexible programs that can be organized as per time, place, and situation. For example, during major Hindu festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, Janai Purnima, or Gita Jayanti, the organisation conducts seminars, interactive talks, philosophical discussions, and cultural dialogues highlighting the relevance of Sanskrit texts and values to modern life. Such events often include guest lectures by scholars, recitation of verses, or public readings of Sanskrit scriptures. When contemporary challenges arise—such as cultural identity threats or educational policy debates—the organisation may host quick-response public forums or press events to share its perspective. These contextual programs serve to keep the organisation active and responsive, ensuring that Sanskrit and Vedic values are voiced whenever they are most relevant and needed in public discourse.

Annual Programs

Jayatu Sanskritam follows a structured annual calendar to ensure consistency and systematic execution of its mission. Key among its annual programs is the celebration of Jayatu Sanskritam Day on Asar 1, commemorating the historical student-led movement. Every year, the Jayatu Sanskritam Award is presented to an individual who has made a lasting contribution to Sanskrit scholarship. Additionally, a Sanskrit Poets’ Conference is organised, inviting poets from across the country to present original Sanskrit verses. Regular talk programs focusing on the importance of Sanskrit in Nepal’s cultural identity, religious harmony, and national unity are held throughout the year. Sanskrit language training and cultural awareness sessions are also repeated annually to reach new learners. These annual programs not only maintain organizational rhythm but also keep the community engaged, educated, and connected to the Sanskrit movement. A printed or digital calendar is released each year to inform the public and partner institutions.
