Kathmandu, June 27, 2025 “ The prestigious 19th World Sanskrit Conference has officially launched at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

Kathmandu, June 27, 2025 “ The prestigious 19th World Sanskrit Conference has officially launched at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. The international symposium, organized by Nepal Sanskrit University,and the co-organized by many other organations, among Jayatu Sanskritam is also a part of co-organizing unite. 19th World Sanskrit Conference marks a historic first for Nepal and is the fifth time it has transpired in South Asia. The five-day event runs from June 26 to June 30, fostering academic dialogue among scholars and practitioners worldwide.

President Ram Chandra Poudel officiated the opening ceremony, emphasizing Sanskrit’s transformation into a global asset, spanning computing, AI, and cross-cultural discourse He highlighted Nepal’s deep-rooted connection to Sanskrit, noting that the word Nepal appears in the Atharva Veda and that over 200 Sanskrit inscriptions from the Lichchhavi era confirm its long-standing official status Using a verse from the Upanishadsad this entire universe is filled with consciousness. Do not be attached to or greedy for wealth"—the President urged participants to advocate for peace, compassion, and harmony amidst today’s global crises He also recognized past exclusions, particularly how Sanskrit was historically confined to upper-caste men, and stressed the necessity of democratizing the language for all

Minister Badri Prasad Pandey portrayed the conference as a cultural renaissance, highlighting participation from over 20 universities globally. He encouraged international guests to explore Nepal’s rich sacred landscape—rivers, mountains, and temples where Vedic mantras resonate. Earlier this year he also urged Gurukul institutions to revive Nepal’s indigenous civilization and serve as hubs for interaction, tourism, and tribal wisdom Indian spiritual leader Chinna Jeeyar Swami called Sanskrit the language of the gods, celebrated its unifying power through Vedic mantras, and commended its role in connecting humanity across cultures The evenings cultural showcase featured Kathak and Bharatanatyam recitals, reflecting the living heritage Sanskrit supports
